Dust mites are a major source of allergies and the bed is where they are most active. Dust mites don't bite and they are too small for the naked eye to see. Within 6 months of having a new mattress it will have become colonised by dust mites. These dust mites will be producing a significant number of faecal pellets which contain the dust mite allergen. Dust mites cannot drink and as a result the pellets are very dry and become fragmented into tiny pieces.
Dust mite proof bedding is made of a very tightly woven material that will not allow the dust mite or its faeces to pass through so the dust mites are not able to colonise the mattress, duvet or pillow protecting the sleeper from the allergen.
