The DD8LJ is ideal for a 4/5 bedroom house. It is also very suitable for a large garage, boat, caravan or motor home. It is basically the same as the DD8L though it has no ioniser and no silver nano coating on the filter.
The DD8LJ is a desiccant dehumidifier so does not have a compressor or cooling coils, making it lighter, quieter and more energy efficient than a traditional dehumidifier. This has several advantages:
Whatever the temperature the DD8LJ will remove 8 litres of water per day. Whether you put it in your cold garage or your warm house the dehumidifier will extract exactly the same amount of water. This is equivalent to a twenty litre compressor dehumidifier in the house and a considerably larger, industrial, machine in the garage.
The air coming out of the DD8LJ will be about 10 to 12°C warmer than the air that goes into it. Very useful for drying washing and warming cold areas of the house.
The lack of a compressor makes the DD8LJ about half as heavy as a normal dehumidifier. This also means that the DD8LJ is quieter than even the smallest dehumidifiers available. No compressor and cooling coils mean no refrigerants making the DD8LJ kinder to the environment and the correct choice if you are concerned about the planet.
As is the case with all desiccant machines the running wattage of the DD8L is higher than that of a compressor based machine. But one has to take into account the fact that desiccant machines get the job done faster and are therefore on for less time. The end result in terms of consumption is very similar. Practical Boat Owner found that it extracted water several times faster than any of the compressor machines on test.
Using a dehumidifier means that the air is drier, if the air is drier there are less water molecules in the air for your heating system to heat. This makes your heating more efficient and you feel warmer. This means that it costs you less to heat the house and you will be able to turn your thermostat down. It is more than likely that the money you save on heating the air will be more than you spend on running the dehumidifier.
