DermaSilk Knitted Silk Tubular Sleeves

The DermaSilk Knitted Silk Tubular Sleeves provide a stable moisture balance and helping stop dry skin, itching and scratching. These sleeves can be used to cover either your elbows or your knees. They come in one size only and are made of 98% DermaSilk plus 2% lycra. Although the sleeves contain 2% lycra the individual lycra fibres are spun with a double helix of DermaSilk threads around them. This means that when the lycra stretches, it remains fully encased in DermaSilk and out of contact with the skin.

In clinical trials 83% of children with atopic dermatitis using DermaSilk showed an improvement in their condition.

DermaSilk is made of a special knitted medical grade silk which has been stripped of its outer coating and bonded with Microbe Shield technology*. It is far superior to cotton for sensitive skin, retaining up to 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp. The special knitted construction of the fabric makes it breathable promoting faster healing, in essence a second skin. "Normal" silk fabrics used for clothes are not recommended for dressing of subjects with atopic dermatitis, as these fabrics reduce transpiration and therefore may cause worsening of disease activity.

*DermaSilk is specially bonded with an antimicrobial shield, called AEM 5772.5, which has been used in hospitals for over thirty years and has proven ability to inhibit bacterial and fungal growth on fabrics such as operating theatre gowns. It acts by puncturing and electrocuting bacteria and fungi, causing their death. There is no chemical poisoning of the cells and no chemicals or nano-particles are released onto the skin. No other antimicrobial is capable of protecting silk in this way.

Washing DermaSilk
To maximise the life of your DermaSilk Knitted Silk Tubular Sleeves wash carefully by hand with non-biological (enzyme free) detergent suitable for sensitive skin. Rinse thoroughly and air dry.

Every ten washes we recommend soaking DermaSilk overnight in a solution of two tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda per litre of water to maintain the softness of the fabric, then wash as above.
