Reverse Osmosis is the method of purifying liquid by pushing it through a semi-permeable membrane. The membrane allows pure water molecules through it, whilst impurities are flushed away.
How it works:
Incoming water is filtered through a four stage filter system.
Stage 1. A 5 micron pre-filter removes any sediment and particles.
Stage 2. An activated carbon block filter removes a large number of heavy metals and chlorine.
Stage 3. The water is forced through the membrane for removal of pesticides, bacteria, nitrates and the remaining metals. The water is then stored in a pressure tank with a butyl liner.
Stage 4. When the tap is turned on the butyl liner contracts and the water is pushed out through a final granulated carbon filter to remove any residual taste from the liner, and then out through the tap.
The filters are sold as a set. The set contains a Pre-filter, Carbon Filter and Post Carbon Filter. The set should be replaced every six months and the membrane every two years.
