If you know you're allergic to mould, don't try to scrub it away. This releases mould spores into the air, which can then end up in your lungs. The most important factor in keeping mould under control is to manage the humidity in your home or office and use non toxic sprays to denature and/or kill the spores.

Read more information about mould allergy, and read on for our 4-step approach to fighting mould...

Step 1 - Measure

At The Healthy House we recommend the humidity level in your home should never be lower than 40% and higher than 60%. If you have a mould allergy, we recommend a relative humidity of between 40 and 50%. The following products will help you decide whether you need to take action against mould in your home:

  • A weather station that measures relative humidity will alert you to whether you need to invest in a dehumidifier to remove the humidity from the air in the first place.
  • The MouldCheck kit is a simple test kit that you can easily use and analyse at home. Within 3 - 4 days the test kit shows you what level of mould you have in a particular room and then you can take measures to deal with it if necessary.

Step 2 - Dehumidify

If the humidity level in your home is in the upper range of the above recommended limits, then we recommend you purchase a dehumidifier (whether you have a mould allergy or not).

With so many daily activities such as showering, drying laundry and cooking producing humidity, it is vital to have a way of removing this excess moisture. If you deal with the root cause of damp and leaks, the dehumidifier will do the rest.

We have three top-quality new additions to our dehumidifier range. We have carefully chosen dehumidifiers with extra built-in air cleaning capacity. The HeavenFresh HF610 has a UV light to kill bacteria and viruses and currently you can save £80 on this unit. The Meaco Platinum dehumidifiers have the option to add a HEPA filter (sold separately) to enhance their air cleaning performance.

Step 3 - Sterilise

Once the humidity levels have been reduced in your environment, it's advisable to use an air steriliser to kill the mould spores. Radic8 does not depend upon filtration, instead it fills the air with super oxidants eliminating bacteria, mould and fungi, viruses, dust mites, allergens and harmful VOCs, allowing you to breathe clean and healthy air.

"...One week with the Radic8 installed and we noted a huge difference just in the smell and with the amount of mould on the walls and ceiling. Radic8 performed another mould air test after one week and the colonies had gone down to 3.

We were amazed!..." Customer feedback

Step 4 - Spray

In damp, polluted areas, the Allergy Mould Pack of spray treatments will keep treated surfaces mould-free for a minimum of one month. They are a handy, cost-effective way to keep mould under control, at home and on the go.

Please note that if you have recurrent moulds in certain areas you need to seek professional help to find the source of excess moisture and improve ventilation.
