Why we set up The Healthy House...

In the 1980s and 90s there was very little in the way of information and products available for people with allergies and chemical sensitivities. Realising a gap in the market and knowing how difficult it was to source specialist products we set up The Healthy House in 1991. Starting with a skeletal range of products, it has grown enormously to offer the wide range of products and information available today.

Reduce your exposure to allergens and chemicals...

Many people are used to having sneezing bouts, wheezing, coughing as if it is just part of their make-up. We find that usually these symptoms are triggered by something specific (or a variety of things). Some people are used to their child sneezing and coughing in the morning and don't think much more about it.

Bedroom Pack with free air purifier

Symptoms at night and in the morning are often caused by dust mites in the bedding and bedroom. By reducing exposure to dust mites, these symptoms can be reduced or even eliminated. We offer a new Bedroom Pack with free Air Purifier with everything you need to make and keep your bedroom dust mite free. Similar symptoms can also be triggered by moulds, and dust mite and moulds tend to go together since dust mites need fungi and moisture in order to survive and proliferate.

Are we surprised that allergies are on the increase?

The short answer is definitely "No". With the increased exposure to chemicals (and often preservatives) in foods, toiletries, cleaning products, laundry products, treatments of furnishings and furnishings, chlorine and other pollutants in water, and traffic fumes our immune systems are struggling to keep up. Add to this specific allergens, and it is hardly surprising that people are reacting.

Read the labels and be aware of what you are using...

By being aware of the ingredients in toiletries, cleaning and laundry products and knowing what you should be avoiding, you can reduce your exposure to harsh chemicals.

By being aware of allergens - dust mites, moulds and pet allergens, you can make a plan to reducing your exposure to them.

Chlorine in water...

Many people with eczema or very dry skin are affected by swimming in the local swimming pool but often don't realise that showering and bathing at home is also exposing their skin to the chlorine in the water. Chlorine can also affect asthma.

Chemical Sensitivity...

Suffering from chemical sensitivity ourselves we are very careful about the products we use. This is particularly important in terms of choosing bedding, toiletries, cleaning products, detergents, paints and furnishings.
