The University of Portsmouth, reported on BBC Health, has found that 16% of 11-year-olds and almost 19% of 15-year-olds avoid some foods as they feel that they are allergic or intolerant to them. In fact the study found that only 2.3% had allergies to the foods that they were avoiding. As someone who avoids certain foods I can quite understand that people, regardless of age avoid things that they feel make them feel unwell. My involvement with The Healthy House has meant that I have had access to many allergy and intolerance tests over the last 15 years. The results are clear. I am allergic to Yeast - No I do not eat bread or drink bear, and yes I do know that brewers and bakers yeast are different but react to both. I also know that I have a slight intolerance to white potato. I am normally fine eating potatoes but if I am already tired or run down then it puts more pressure on my immune system and I am more susceptible to catching colds or other illnesses. Many people choose to avoid certain foods as it upsets their stomachs or makes them feel unwell. If you think that there are foods that your body does not respond well too then the answer is simple. DON'T EAT THEM. Read the article about the University of Portsmouth and know what the experts say, then make a decision based on how your body feels. Ultimately - you have to live with the consequences.
