BBC News reported that research reported in the journal, Science, has found that a single retrovirus called XMRV plays a role in M.E. Although the link between XMRV and M.E. is not conclusively proven the experts are cautiously optimistic that this discovery will lead to new treatments for the condition.

M.E. or chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a debilitating disease that affects an estimated 17 million people worldwide. The US scientists found that 67% of the M.E. patients were found in their study with the virus compared to under 4% of the general population.
