The results of a research programme in Nottingham looking at the effects of softened water on eczema will be of interest to many sufferers. Though we have heard of many sufferers finding a water softener has significantly improved their eczema we also have feedback from sufferers who have found that removing chlorine from the water they use to bath and shower in has altered their lives. Since water hardness varies in different parts of the country one test is to note whether your eczema improves when you are in a soft water area and if it does then a water softener should have the same effect. We find that many of our customers have not considered the effects of chlorine on their damaged skin though they would be appalled at the idea of swimming in a chlorinated pool. Since chlorine attacks organic matter, including skin, hair and the lungs, removing it can be a vital and significant part of an eczema therapy programme.
