Carpet beetles cause serious damage to fabrics, carpets and stored foods. The adults lay eggs on the food source i.e. carpets, fabrics and furs. The egs hatch in about 2 weeks and the larvae feed for varying periods depending upon species and environmental conditions. The larvae burrow into the feed source. Carpet beetle adults do not feed on fabrics but seek out pollen and nectar. They are attracted to sunlight and found on a wide variety of plants. They are frequently brought in on plants and flowers.
The damage is caused by the larvae and they can be difficult to eradicate because of the wide variety of food sources. The larvae are eliminated by regular cleaning with FabriCleanse topped up with HomeCleanse spray.
Firstly, remove any seriously damaged carpets or fabrics and then clean the carpets with FabriCleanse at the rate of 1 ml per litre of carpet cleaning fluid. Clean once per month for 3 months and then apply HomeCleanse once per month to prevent re-infestation. Always check plants and flowers for carpet beetle before bringing in to the home.
